Augustana College Centennial, 1957-1960

The Augustana College Centennial series, 1957-1960, commemorates the 100th anniversary of the 1860 founding of Augustana College in Chicago, Illinois. It has been arranged in the following subseries:

Augustana Synod Centennial Convention, 1958-1960, contains materials regarding the Centennial Synod Convention 6-12 June 1960. Items include the Centennial Synod Coordinating Committee’s minutes, correspondence, notes, and reports regarding the convention, and promotional materials for the convention and the Augustana Lutheran Synod, such as registration papers for the convention and for the Augustana Lutheran Synod, a program for the convention, an order form for the audiovisual recordings of the convention, and a visitor’s envelope to the convention.

Programs, 1959-1960 includes music concert programs, commencement programs, and centennial events programs created throughout the centennial year and in honor of the centennial anniversary.

Promotional Materials, 1959-1960, contains materials promoting Augustana history and the centennial anniversary including brochures about Augustana College and its history, mailings for events on campus in honor of the centennial celebration, press releases, and a calendar of events for the centennial. In addition, this subseries includes correspondence over the press releases for the Centennial, an invitation to the Founder’s Day Convocation, and a copy of the 1960 Summer School Catalog.

Articles and Reports, 1957-1960, contains a variety of newspaper articles from Quad City newspapers and reports and bulletins by Augustana College, Swedish-American magazines, and the Augustana Synod about the history of Augustana College, events for the centennial, and advertisements for centennial events.
