Scope and Contents

The collection of Augustana College exhibition materials, 1869-1960 and undated, includes pamphlets, programs, class schedules, academic forms, and publications.

Academic forms, circa 1880s-1920s, contains forms prepared by Augustana College's Office of the Registrar or other recordkeeping offices. Forms include applications for admission to the college, registration blanks, planning forms for courses of study, class absence forms, and student employment applications. Also included is the Fall 1887 class schedule of Carl August Bergendoff (Augustana College class of 1890). With the exception of Bergendoff's form, all other forms in the folder are blank.

Departmental publications, 1913-1930 and undated, contains published pamphlets created by various Augustana College departments and organizations. These include the Augustana Book Concern, Augustana Conservatory, Augustana Girls' Athletic Association, and Augustana Correspondence School. Materials are promotional and informational in nature, including recruitment pamphlets and printed constitutions.

Event programs, 1921 and 1928, contains printed programs for two events: an alumni banquet held at the Augustana gymnasium 24 May 1921 and an Augustana College House of Representatives banquet held at the Blackhawk Hotel 7 December 1928.

Exhibit case labels, 1960, contains several textual labels apparently removed from an exhibit case. The labels contain historical information related to college endowments, debates and oratory, tuition and fees, honorary societies, and accreditation. It is unclear whether the labels were removed from the exhibition for which the materials in this collection were curated, or if they were preserved from another exhibition due to the information they contain.

The bulk of these pamphlets are "Rules and Regulations for the Information and Guidance of Students of the Collegiate, Preparatory, and Normal Departments of Augustana College," which served as the school's student handbook until the 1930s; but also included are two documents entitled "Rules Governing Athletics at Augustana College" and "Rules Governing Young Women of Augustana College."

Student handbooks and informational pamphlets, 1895-1937 and undated, contains informational publications created for currently enrolled Augustana students. These include descriptions of available courses of study, information about the campus and various departments, constitutions of the honor system, student handbooks, directions and advice, financial aid information, and information about religious services.
