Scope and Contents

The Dick Stahl papers consists of two scrapbooks. The first, Old Main 2010-2013, documents the renovation of the Old Main building on Augustana’s campus and includes photography and poetry by Stahl. The second, Three Poetic Constructions 2012-2013, contains poetry written by Stahl and inspired by construction and renovations at three sites on Augustana’s campus: Old Main, the Center for Student Life, and the Austin E. Knowlton Athletic Complex.

Historical Note

Richard “Dick” Stahl is an alumnus of Augustana College, class of 1963, and poet. He served as the first poet laureate of the Quad Cities from 2001 to 2003, a post created by local arts agency Quad City Arts. Stahl has published several volumes of poetry, including After the Milk Route (1988), Under the Green Tree Hotel (1996), and Mr. Farnam's Guests (2004). Stahl is a native of Davenport, Iowa, and a former English teacher at Central High School. He is married to Helen Stahl, Augustana College class of 1964, who co-created one of the scrapbooks in the collection with him.

The Dick Stahl papers contains two scrapbooks of poetry created by Dick Stahl. These scrapbooks were inspired by construction projects on Augustana's campus in the early 2010s.
