Abstract

K. A. Martin (also, Karl Axel or Carl Axel) was born in Horn, Östergötland, Sweden on January 22, 1863. He came to the United States in 1881, and arrived at Augustana College and Theological Seminary in Rock Island, Illinois in 1884. He attended the college from 1886-1888, and the seminary from 1892-1894. Martin was ordained in St. Peter, Minnesota on June 10, 1894. He then served congregations in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey until his death on October 13, 1942. Materials in this collection include photographs (mainly portraits and family photographs), notebooks, Martin’s obituary in the New York Times, old binder covers, early Augustana College catalogues, essays on a variety of topics (especially religious subjects), constitutions from various organizations (congregations, conferences, institutions, etc.), textbooks, religious books, music books, pamphlets, booklets, and correspondence. The materials are in both English and Swedish.
