Sigma Alpha Iota, Delta Tau Chapter records

 Collection
Identifier: MSS 272

Scope and Contents

The Sigma Alpha Iota, Delta Tau chapter records, 1950-2018, is organized into three series: Chapter records, Scrapbooks, and Photographs.

Chapter records, 1950-2018, contains the group's official records, including manuals, meeting minutes, yearbooks, informal annual reports entitled "Happenings," correspondence, event programs, sheet music, documents issued by the SAI National Headquarters, the group's 1965 charter, and computer files. A folder labeled "Other papers" housed at the end of the series contains a list of photographs, 1997, possibly representing chapter members' favorite photographs selected from a batch of candidates for a scrapbook; a card, 1997, thanking Delta Tau for hosting Province Day events, probably from an alumna or the Gamma B's Province Officer; a program for the group's annual "Celebrating Women in the Arts" concert, 1998; Sword of Honor award cards, 2004; and an agenda for the group's formal meeting held 23 November 2014.

Scrapbooks, 1965-1998, circa 2015, contains scrapbooks created throughout Delta Tau's existence. Although most scrapbooks were compiled to document the group's general activities during the academic year, two were created to commemorate specific events. "Augustana College: Petitioning- Sigma Alpha Iota," 1965 (housed in box 5), contains correspondence, photographs, and programs documenting the founding group's efforts to establish an SAI chapter at Augustana; and the 75th anniversary scrapbook, 1978 (housed in oversize box 1), includes fliers, programs, and reports from the 1978 SAI national convention in Dallas, Texas. For preservation purposes, loose items were removed from their respective scrapbooks and rehoused in separate folders, which can be found in box 2. Additionally, individual pages of scrapbooks housed in three-ring binders were removed and placed into folders, and the binders were discarded.

Photographs, 1965-2015, contains photographs, negatives, and slides, primarily from the late 1990s. Photographs include a 1965 group photograph of the founding members of Delta Tau; snapshots of various events hosted throughout the 1970s; photographs of musicales, formal dances, parties, and other events, 1997-1998; photographs of Gamma B's Province Day, 1997, which Delta Tau apparently hosted; and composite photographs. Negatives and slides primarily include group photographs of Delta Tau members at various events, 1997-1998.
