Gustav Andreen and family papers

Abstract Gustav Andreen was the fourth president of Augustana College as well as its longest-serving president, having held office from 1901 to 1935. Andreen was the first Augustana president to be born in the United States, to have graduated from Augustana, and to serve more than 30 years. Andreen was also responsible for creating an organized fundraising campaign to establish a college endowment. Augustana College Y.M.C.A. War Fund records

Abstract

Many Augustana students and professors enlisted in the military during World War I. To support their friends and family, along with the cause, students and professors still at the college raised money to send to the troops. One such collection was the Y.M.C.A. War Fund. This collection consists of a list of campus donors to that fund.

This collection was assembled by Special Collections staff from orphan manuscripts and items removed from books in the Rare Book Collection.

Pressel family papers

Abstract

Paul Pressel was born in Germany. He later moved to Moline, Illinois, and became a citizen of the United States in 1890. He and his wife had two sons, Harry and Ernest. The Pressel family papers, 1890-1967 and undated, contains correspondence, postcards, and legal documents created by four members of the Pressel family: Paul Pressel, Harry Pressel, Ernest Pressel, and Jane Pressel Kaminski.

The Arthur Wald Armistice Day collection contains pamphlets, articles, political cartoons and other propaganda collected by Dr. Arthur Wald, who served as Dean of the College at Augustana College and Theological Seminary from 1931 until 1947. The collection consists of eight series: Armistice Day; Secular Organizations; Religious Organizations; Foreign Publications; Military and Armaments; Miscellaneous Issues; Propaganda; and Posters, Flyers, and Newspapers.
