Elfriede Beyer papers

Abstract

Elfriede Leschewski Beyer was a German immigrant, a member of the Black Hawk Hiking Club, and an award-winning artist active in the Rock Island area in the mid-twentieth century. The Elfriede Beyer papers, 1927-1989 and undated, contains two of Beyer's sketchbooks, Beyer's obituary, and personal notes removed from the sketchbooks.

Abstract John Henry Hauberg was a businessman, philanthropist, civic organizer, researcher, and photographer active in Rock Island and the Quad Cities area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Hauberg and his wife, Susanne Denkmann Hauberg, were very active in the Quad Cities community, serving on many advisory boards and organizing dozens of philanthropic initiatives. Kahlke Bros. Boatyard records

Abstract

John and Peter Kahlke, two brothers born in Germany, opened the Kahlke Bros. Boatyard in Rock Island, Illinois in 1868. The business, which focused on building and repairing wooden boats of various types, was well known throughout the United States for its high quality work. In 1924, the boatyard was passed on to Peter's sons, Fred and Ed. The Kahlke Bros. Boatyard records include correspondence and other records related to the management of the business.

Paul Pressel was born in Germany. He later moved to Moline, Illinois, and became a citizen of the United States in 1890. He and his wife had two sons, Harry and Ernest. The Pressel family papers, 1890-1967 and undated, contains correspondence, postcards, and legal documents created by four members of the Pressel family: Paul Pressel, Harry Pressel, Ernest Pressel, and Jane Pressel Kaminski.
