This collection was assembled by Special Collections staff from orphan manuscripts and items removed from books in the Rare Book Collection.

Alice Elizabeth Schall was born in 1860, the daughter of John Schall, a second generation German landowner and farmer, and Matilda Ann Cunningham Schall, an Irish immigrant. She attended Immaculate Conception Academy in Davenport, Iowa, then moved to Coe Township near Port Byron, Illinois, to live with her family.
