Abstract John P. Magnusson was born December 12, 1872 and grew up in western Minnesota. He received his B. A. from Gustavus Adolphus College (1898), M. A. from University of Minnesota (1902), and Ph. D. in Chemistry from Cornell University (1907). Before accepting a professorship from Augustana College, Magnusson taught and worked in administration at several high schools and then was an instructor at Cornell while he finished his graduate studies. Phrateres, Omicron Chapter records

Abstract

The Phrateres was an all female organization for college students centered around socialization, leadership, networking and service. By 1944, there were 13 official chapters, including one at the University of British Columbia, making it an international organization. Augustana College's chapter, Omicron, was founded in 1941. The Phrateres, Omicron Chapter records, 1940-1945 and undated, contains the group's constitution, meeting minutes, bulletins, the group song, and other records.

Pi Upsilon Gamma newsletters

Abstract

Pi Upsilon Gamma was a fraternity active at Augustana College from 1916 to 1993, when its charter was revoked due to violations of the college hazing policy. This collection consists of one box of newsletters entitled the “Pug Service Growler.” This newsletter was distributed to PUG members and alumni during and immediately following World War II to update the membership on the wartime activities, locations, and deaths of members serving in the armed forces.

Abstract Lenora Purdy was born 16 July 1912, to Edward Purdy, an employee of the Iowa Telephone Company, and his wife, Antoinette Blaser-Purdy. Lenora had one sister, Erma (1913-2002), and they both attended the Davenport public schools. These included Monroe School, West Intermediate School, and Davenport High School.
