Augustana College Student Government Association records

Abstract Student government began at Augustana College in 1892 with the group calling itself the “Students' Union.” Upholding the honor system, assigning committee members, and overseeing committees were among some of the first responsibilities of the Students' Union. Eventually the group changed its name to the Representative Assembly and then the Student Government Association. Abstract

The Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society was founded at Washington and Lee University in 1914. The Augustana College chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa, referred to as the Augustana “circle” by the society, was established in 1962 by eleven students and six faculty members. The Omicron Delta Kappa records, 1957-1976 and undated, includes booklets, meeting minutes, chapter and national correspondence, newspaper clippings, bulletins, and membership criteria.

Abstract

The Women’s Rights Symposium, entitled “Women’s Liberation: Who Needs It?”, was held on 3 February 1973 in Centennial Hall at Augustana College. The Women’s Rights Symposium collection, 1972-1973, consists of two items: a mug commemorating the event, and a scrapbook which contains newspaper coverage, promotional material, guest speaker contracts, and correspondence received by organizer Lori Spencer (née Hess).
