Abstract
The Augustana Business College was established in 1888 in order to instruct students in the particulars of starting and running a business. Students took courses in typing, shorthand, finances, business law, business writing, mathematics, and business correspondence, among others. The college was eventually renamed the Commercial Department. The School of Phonography and Typewriting was established to train students to be stenographers and secretaries. Abstract
Frank Theodore Hillstrom was a graduate of Augustana Business College in 1896 and Des Moines Business College in 1899. He was active in the lumber industry in Colorado and New Mexico. This collection primarily relates to Hillstrom's early life and includes papers from his time at Augustana Business College, postcards, and photographs of his family and home.
