Scope and Contents
The Ringling Bros., Barnum and Bailey subseries, 1997-2014 and undated, contains materials produced during McKinley’s work as director of Ringling Bros., Barnum and Bailey Circus. Materials include production materials relating to the 128th through the 133rd and the 135th editions of Ringling Bros., Barnum and Bailey Circus; a letter regarding the 134th edition, which McKinley did not direct; production materials relating to the 2004 Hometown Edition and 2007 Boom-a-Ring one-ring productions, which include many costume and set designs for various circus acts, scripts, and production binders used by the director and stage manager to keep track of the technical aspects of the production; and publicity, 1998–2014, including newspaper clippings publicizing the circus, programs, media guides, trivia about Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey and circus history, and a dictionary of circus terminology. Also included are papers related to animal care, including sheets of animal facts, veterinarian facts, and information regarding Ringling Bros., Barnum and Bailey’s Asian elephant conservation efforts; a Clown College Catalogue; and programs for circuses such as The Big Apple Circus that compete with Ringling Bros., Barnum and Bailey.
