Content Description
The Augustana College Department of Women’s and Gender Studies records, 1976-2011 and undated, contains meeting minutes, correspondence, clippings, ephemera, and other papers created or collected by the Augustana College Women's and Gender Studies Department. The materials are arranged into four series.
The Administration series, 1993-2011 and undated, includes Women’s and Gender Studies Board meeting minutes and agendas, department financial records, invitations to join the Board, election ballots, and printed copies of email correspondence between Board members regarding departmental business.
The Curriculum series, 1989-2008 and undated, includes copies of course master schedules, proposed course syllabi, a 1996 report on the Women's and Gender Studies Department and its curriculum, and printed copies of email correspondence between Board members regarding scheduling.
The Events and Publicity series, 1989-2008 and undated, contains material about events sponsored by the Women’s and Gender Studies Department, department brochures and newsletters, printed copies of email correspondence between Board members regarding Women’s and Gender Studies events, buttons and stickers from events attended by members of the department, and photographs. Photographs depict various departmental events held during the 1990s, including fundraisers, talks, and luncheons. The bulk of the photographs were taken at the department's Coffeehouse series, and these images depict Women's and Gender Studies students and faculty making protest signs, socializing, dancing, reading palms, and playing music. Also included are two photographs of Nancy Huse and a souvenir photograph of an unidentified woman in a NASA space suit.
The ERA history series, 1976-1982, includes clippings, pamphlets, flyers, and other ephemera on the campaign to pass the Equal Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution. This material was collected by the Women's and Gender Studies department. Included are papers related to campaigns to pass the amendment staged by various women's rights organizations; ephemera such as buttons, brochures, stickers, and flyers; photographic negatives taken at the 10 May 1980 march in support of the ERA in Chicago; and pamphlets containing information on the amendment, including a book of "ERA battle hymns."
