Supplementary papers, 1856-1876
Scope and Contents
The Henry S. Shurtleff Justice of the Peace ledger, 1856-1876 and undated, contains a handwritten record of all the cases over which Shurtleff presided from 1857 to 1861. These range from chattel mortgages to disputes over payment for services rendered. Inserted into the ledger were repayment orders for mortgages and records from additional cases, which have been removed from the ledger and housed in a separate folder. Also included are photocopies of five obituaries: two for Job A. Shurtleff, and one each for Henry S. Shurtleff, Charles A. Shurtleff, and Hester Ann Taylor Shurtleff (Charles's wife).
