Scope and Contents
The Augustana College Sesquicentennial series, 2009-2011, commemorates the 150th anniversary of the 1860 founding of Augustana College in Chicago, Illinois. It has been arranged in the following subseries:
Official Proclamations, 2010, includes a pact signed by Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, and Augustana College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota commemorating the sesquicentennial. In addition, this subseries includes two official proclamations from the State of Illinois House of Representatives and the United States House of Representatives commemorating Augustana College’s Sesquicentennial.
Office of the President official statements, 2010, contains official statements about the sesquicentennial by President Steven Bahls and his office. It includes two e-mails sent by the Office of the President to the faculty and staff of Augustana College commemorating the sesquicentennial celebration and informing them about the hometown celebration. In addition, this subseries includes a speech by President Bahls commemorating the founding of the Augustana Synod at Jefferson Prairie, Wisconsin.
Programs, 2010, contains two music concert programs from the sesquicentennial year.
Promotional Materials, 2009-2011, contains materials promoting Augustana history and the sesquicentennial anniversary, including a calendar of events and a program booklet indicating celebrations that took place for the 150th anniversary throughout the year, a variety of flyers, bookmarks, e-mails, poems, exhibit markings, and mailings promoting 150th events, Homecoming, the Augustana Fund, Augustana history, 150th exhibits, and digitization projects for the 150th anniversary. Also included are a 150th magnet and a commemorative note card set, as well as a letter, two commemorative certificates, and a t-shirt all recognizing Augustana's Guinness World Record for the 'Longest chain of people licking ice cream' event in conjunction with Whitey's Ice Cream.
Articles, 2010, contains newspaper reports and an article from Sweden and America magazine about sesquicentennial events and the history of Augustana College.
