Scope and Contents
The Hal C. Yingling papers, 1887-1926 and undated, contains Yingling's personal and professional papers, including Vital Records, Correspondence, Financial Records, Essays, Newsclippings, Miscellaneous, and Photographs.
Vital Records (1912-1922 and undated) contains marriage and baptism certificates, grade reports and degrees, registration records, birth announcements, and graduation announcements.
Correspondence (1915-1923 and undated) consists of letters and telegraphs to and from Yingling regarding his career as a professor at various universities.
Financial Records (1887-1926 and undated) contains records of monetary transactions from Yingling's personal and professional life. Included are receipts, checks, paychecks, freight bills, hospital bills, certificates of agreement, and IOU's.
Essays (undated) comprises Yingling's written work, including his homage to the work of Dr. Mark Francis of the A and M College of Texas, an exploration of aphid eggs, and an account of his honeymoon, which included a scenic journey to Yingling's place of employment in Texas. The folder also contains a poem about the irresistible evils of tobacco, and the lyrics to a song entitled "It's Nice to Get up in the Morning," by Harry Lauder.
News Clippings (undated) consists of newspaper articles and sports boxscores. Aside from baseball scores, the clippings include a cartoon of President Teddy Roosevelt's funeral procession, a copy of the Illinois state song by William A. Meese, articles from "Popular Mechanics," and a printed hierarchy of coal products. Newspaper articles touch topics from evolution to religious debate to war, and additionally includes articles on people such as Dr. William Oxley Thompson and Pete Stinchcomb. The final item in this folder is an issue of "The Reveille," the daily newspaper at A and M College of Texas, regarding Dr. Yingling's resignation of his position there.
Miscellaneous (undated) consists of a collection of pamphlets, the majority of which are railroad timetables. Also included is a a gestation chart for farm animals, a pamphlet of Jap-A-Lac varnish samples, and a similar pamphlet of "Water Color for Walls" by Alabastine. There are also road maps of Ohio and Pennsylvania, a newspaper article about a restaurant named Antoine's, sketches of furniture, a book catalog supplement, advertisements, a grocery list, and other jottings.
Photographs (1910 and undated) contains a photgraph of an unidentified infant and a 1910 class photograph at Heidelberg University.
