Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Carl Otto Granere papers, 1873-1946 and undated, is arranged into five series. The Writings series, 1874-1929 and undated, includes poems written in both English and Swedish by Granere. The subject matter is largely academic or religious, with many poems written in memoriam of deceased faculty members or odes to the college. Also included is a one-act play written by Granere. The Religious series, 1895, 1946 and undated, contains a bound sermon book filled with Swedish sermons and various unbound sermons and prayers. The Scholastic series, 1877, 1902 and undated contains Granere's anniversary speech to the class of 1877 as well as other speeches about the state of academic affairs at the college. The Photographs series contains a photograph of Granere and his first wife in Paxton, Illinois, as well as clippings of Old Main and some of the college's founding faculty. The Miscellaneous series, 1880-1889 and undated, contains Granere's pocket-sized financial records and an obituary/posthumous biography written in Swedish.
