Administrative resumes, position descriptions, and faculty data [3 folders], 1958-1984

 File — Box: 2, Folder: 1-3

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The John Thomas Tredway papers, 1958-1994, comprise Tredway's official papers from the first 5-10 years of his presidency. Papers include correspondence, financial data, campus planning documents, enrollment statistics, and subject files. The collection also includes some papers from the previous administration under president C.W. Sorensen.

Of note in the collection are materials related to Black student activism and race relations on the Augustana College campus. In particular, two folders of papers document the campus's response to an incident involving a racist skit performed by the Beta Omega Sigma fraternity during a Homecoming parade in 1979. The skit involved members dressed in Ku Klux Klan robes leading another member in blackface with a noose around his neck. The fraternity was put on probation for a year and required to attend a reconciliation program designed to increase racial awareness.
