Davenport Public Schools, 1865-1934

Local School publications, 1858-1965 and undated, contains printed material related to local secondary schools and colleges. Papers in this series largely include pamphlets, commencement programs, yearbooks, directories, and reports. The bulk of the material is related to Rock Island Public Schools. These papers are housed in box 28. The Rock Island Public Schools reports folder contains the school system’s treasurer’s report, 1923; Board of Education meeting minutes, 12 July 1938; and a Centennial Report, 1957. Other papers include commencement programs, the 1932 Dramatic Club yearbook, a 1915 article on the Kemble School, and periodicals, including The Watch Tower, 30 October 1935; The High School Tattler, November 1905; and High School, volume 1, number 1, 1 February 1889. Box 29 contains material related to other schools in the greater Quad Cities area, primarily Davenport and Moline Public Schools, St. Katherine’s Hall, and Bodfor’s School of Music and Oratory. There is also a folder of material related to other local K-12 schools, including Port Byron Academy, South Rock Island School, Henry County Schools, Coal Valley Public Schools, Pink Prairie School, Geneseo Township High School, Prophetstown High School, and Excelsior School; and local colleges (excluding material related to Augustana College, which has been arranged into its own series). Local colleges include Wilton German-English College, Pleasant View Luther College, Mendota Female College, Griswold College, and Queen City College of Dressmaking and Tailoring.
