Photographers, circa 1860s-1880s

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

Photographers, circa 1860s-1880s, contains samples of photographs used as advertising by local photographers. The bulk of the photographs are individual and group portraits on cartes de visite and cabinet cards, but there are also three unidentified tintypes in the collection depicting groups of men posing in a photographer’s studio and a snapshot of a female toddler in front of a house. Because the photographs were used as advertising rather than collected by family members, none of the individuals in the images have been identified, with the exception of one carte de visite, produced by Malin Norrman, identifying a young John Alfred Nelson, born 10 August 1882. Photographs in this subseries are arranged alphabetically by photographer or studio.
