Ruth Erickson scrapbooks
Scope and Contents
The Ruth Erickson scrapbooks, 1920s-1951 and undated, contains photographs and two scrapbooks created by Erickson, largely dating from her time at Augustana.
Photographs include images of Erickson as a child, circa 1920s, and her graduation from high school in 1939, as well as photographs from her time at Augustana, which depict campus buildings, the Augustana Choir, graduation, and her friends. Later photographs include snapshots of vacations with her friends, the third grade class she taught in 1951, and friends' weddings.
Scrapbooks, 1941-1943, include newspaper clippings, a map of campus, handouts and programs from campus events, photographs of campus, and keepsakes such as invitations, awards, schedules, corsages, membership cards, and graduation cards. Erickson also kept information about pledging and rushing and mailings from the 25th anniversary of the Kappa Epsilon Nu sorority.

Historical Note
Ruth Erickson transferred to Augstana College after completing her first year at Aurora College. She graduated in 1943 with a degree in English. She was a member of the Lutheran Student Association, the Berean Bible Class (a women’s Bible study), the Women’s League, the Women’s Athletic Association, and was a student representative of the Augustana Art Association. She was a member of the Kappa Epsilon Nu sorority, for which she served as secretary her junior year and president her senior year. She also served on the Intersorority Council as a senior. She was the secretary of the Dormitory Club her junior year and on staff for the Rockety-I yearbok her senior year. After graduation, Erickson became a third grade teacher.

Custodial History
These materials were found in a house near Sorensen Hall that was about to be torn down. There is no information on how the scrapbooks came into the possession of Augustana College.
The scrapbook in box 2 was relocated to oversize shelving in the summer of 2015. The box was renumbered Oversize Box 1.
