Historical Note
Augustana College’s Economic Education Workshops were directed by Marcus Bruhn, chair of Augustana’s economics department. Bruhn held a masters and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and taught at multiple colleges across the Midwest. According to the 1960 teaching packet, Bruhn’s workshop brought together teachers from local elementary, middle, and high schools in order to promote “a better understanding of economic problems today and a desire to incorporate such knowledge” into K-12 pedagogy. These teaching packets were provided to participants to guide them in teaching certain subjects or events relative to the field of economics.
