Scope and Contents

The Palmquist family papers, 1907-1983 and undated, includes postcards, notebooks, correspondence, and reproductions of photographs. The postcards mainly discuss normal everyday matters such as the weather and recent trips that people have gone on. Class notes, 1912-1918 and undated, consists of seven volumes of mathematics notes and a book entitled “Holmes och Zetterstrand” by Gustaf N. Swan. Photocopies of photographs and correspondence, 1912-1918 and undated, contains three folders of photocopied scrapbook pages and correspondence. Photographs depict family members, friends, and family outings.

Biographical / Historical

The Palmquist family papers primarily contains documents from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Wilbur Palmquist is the primary focus of the collection. Wilbur was a student at Augustana College who participated in the school band and the cross country running team and worked at the Augustana Observer. Wilbur Palmquist attended Augustana from 1913 to 1919. Most of the postcards that are in the collection are addressed to him. The Palmquists owned a farm in Lawton, Iowa, where Wilbur spent his time when he was not at Augustana College. Wilbur served on the Augustana board of directors and served as a minister for the Zion Lutheran Church. Other family members appearing in the collection include Wilbur's parents, Carl and Marrea Palmquist, and his siblings, Ruth and Carl Palmquist.
