Scope and Contents

This collection consists of a single autograph album signed by friends and family members of Tina Johnson Cranz. The album was given to Tina for Christmas in 1886, when she was a student. Entries are mostly short verses in English and Swedish, and many of them were collected during Tina's time at Knox Female Seminary. The album is peppered throughout by entries and drawings created by Tina's daughter, Ellen Cranz, as a young girl.

Historical Note

Tina (also spelled Tena) Johnson was born around 1872, possibly in Sweden. She was a resident of Galesburg, Illinois, and a former student of Knox College's Female Seminary in the late 1880s. After she left the seminary, she moved to Moline, Illinois, and married Frank A Cranz, a painter for Deere and Company, sometime in the 1890s. The couple had a daughter named Ellen around 1898. The family resided in Moline, first at 1411 15th Street and then at 1616 15th Avenue, according to Moline city directories. Tina died in 1938 or 1939.
