Sigma Gamma Epsilon, Alpha Iota chapter records
Abstract
Sigma Gamma Epsilon is a national honor society that recognizes and promotes scholarship and professionalism in earth sciences. To be eligible, a student must maintain at least a 3.0 gpa in all earth science courses and an overall gpa of 2.67. Activities include regular meetings. Officers perform duties such as writing the weekly Geology Department newsletter and helping to organize field trips and meetings of the Udden Geology Club. The Alpha Iota chapter at Augustana College was established in 1938, and formally installed on June 3. It was the 32nd chapter of the society, and the first at a small liberal-arts college. This collection includes correspondence, membership information, financial information, and the petition sent by Augustana to the national office asking to be awarded a chapter.
