Augustana College Credit Union records
Abstract
The Augustana College Credit Union was formed in 1936 with the purpose of encouraging systematic saving and providing borrowing facilities for the 98% of American people who could not borrow from banks. The group was dissolved in 1938 as in the two years of operation the Augustana College Credit Union received not a single loan request. The information in this collection is largely contained in correspondence from 1936 until 1938 between the Augustana College Credit Union, the Illinois Auditor of Public Accounts, and other credit unions about the official founding and dissolution of the group. Also contained in this collection is printed matter such as newspaper clippings, Credit Union Forums, pamphlets about cooperative saving, and the unused forms of the Augustana College Credit Union.
