Abstract

Georgia T. First was a member of the Black Hawk Hiking Club and lived in Rock Island, Illinois, for most of her life. She most likely also lived in Upper Alton, Illinois, for part of her life (possibly in the 1890s). First lived during the late 19th century and early 20th century. She might have attended the University of Chicago. She was also a member of the Upper Alton’s Woman’s Club and the Business and Professional Women of Rock Island. She served on the Black Hawk Hiking Club Board as the publicity manager. Materials in this collection include slides of a trip to Hawaii, a typed list describing the slides, a handwritten notebook with the original descriptions, a large amount of loose photographs (mostly portraits of people, perhaps friends and relatives), Christmas cards, and a box with “Y.M.C.A. Glass Lantern Slides” printed on it (probably where the slides were originally stored).
