Scope and Contents

The Augustana PRISM Alliance records, 2004-2009 and undated, consists of one faculty advisor's binder with the group's constitution, meeting minutes, financial records, correspondence, newspaper clippings, and ephemera. Of particular interest are materials that document anti-hate organizing provided from the group in response to a homophobic incident that occured on campus in 2005. The binder formerly belonged to two faculty advisors, Dr. Jane Simonsen and Dr. Scott Magelssen.

Biographical / Historical

The Augustana PRISM Alliance provided support to Augustana College students of all sexualities and genders. The group also worked to educate the campus community about issues faced by the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community. Prior to the group's founding, similar groups existed on Augustana's campus with alternative names, including Lighthouse and the Augustana Gay/Straight Alliance (AGSA).
