Overview Andrew J. Alford immigrated to the United States from Sweden in 1867, settling in Kankakee County, Illinois. Andrew J. Alford papers, 1855-1895 and undated, contains correspondence between members of Alford's family, title certificates and receipts, insurance policy receipts, Alford's naturalization certificate, and other papers.

Overview James Murray Eaton was an early settler and famer in the Mississippi River Valley. Eaton was born in Willett, New York on October 31, 1835. His family traveled by covered wagon to Garden Plains, Illinois in 1836, where they lived in a log cabin. Eaton and his father were farmers, and were perhaps the first to build a frame house west of Chicago. Eaton married Emily Green, a schoolteacher originally from Lowell, Massachusetts. Overview Samuel Gardner migrated from Bedford, Massachusets, to Kewanee, Illinois, in 1859 and later moved further west. The Samuel Gardner and Lucy Hartwell Pond correspondence, 1852-1860 and undated, contains correspondence from Gardner and members of his extended family, primarily including his cousin, Lucy Hartwell Pond. Much of Gardner's and Pond's correspondence is addressed to Pond's sister, Alzina Hartwell Fletcher, as well as other members of the family.
