Augustana College's Wennerberg Male Chorus was formed in October 1901. Gustav Andreen, then president of Augustana College, had requested that a male chorus be organized to participate in the Gunnar Wennerberg Festival to be held the following December. Ira O. Nothstein served as the head librarian and archivist for Augustana College from 1918 to 1959. He was ordained by the Augustana Lutheran Church in Philadelphia after graduating from Mount Airy Lutheran Theological Seminary.
