Conrad Bergendoff papers

Abstract Conrad Bergendoff was the fifth president of Augustana College. Bergendoff was born in rural Nebraska in 1895. He attended Augustana College, and was a member of the class of 1915. He also earned a divinity degree from Augustana Seminary. After several years Bergendoff returned to the seminary as the dean, then as the president of the seminary and the college in 1935. After the seminary split from the college in 1948, Bergendoff remained the president of the college for fourteen more years....

Abstract Robert Maine Coultas was born on 24 November 1918 in Moline, Illinois. He did some undergraduate work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before graduating from Augustana College with a degree in music. Coultas enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve in 1942 and served in many different positions throughout the war, including tours of active duty in Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Pacific Theater. Abstract Charlotte J. Odman attended Augustana College from 1934 to 1938. After graduating, Odman worked for the Augustana Book Concern in Rock Island, Illinois, and later at the Board of Publication of the Lutheran Church of America in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was the co-editor of the weekly Lutheran Companion and a co-author of The Home Altar, among other Lutheran publications. Abstract

Roger w. Peterson was a 1947 graduate of Augustana College. In 1963, after serving as vice-president of Marshall Erdman and Associates he because Augustana’s first director of development. Peterson then returned to Marshall Erdman. This collection includes photographs of Peterson, including his time in the military during World War II and his time at Augustana both as a student and administrator.

Abstract

Pi Upsilon Gamma was a fraternity active at Augustana College from 1916 to 1993, when its charter was revoked due to violations of the college hazing policy. This collection consists of one box of newsletters entitled the “Pug Service Growler.” This newsletter was distributed to PUG members and alumni during and immediately following World War II to update the membership on the wartime activities, locations, and deaths of members serving in the armed forces.
