Astronomy notebook

Abstract

The astronomy notebook, circa 1880s, contains definitions of astronomical and other scientific terminology, mathematical equations, longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates, drawings, figures, triangulations, word problems, and other notes, presumably produced in an astronomy class at Augustana College. Nothing is known about its provenance.

Robert Cooper collection on Theodore Celms

Abstract

Theodore Celms, Augustana College professor from 1949 to 1963 and 1967 to 1973, was one of the many scholars evacuated from Eastern Europe during World War II. The Robert Cooper collection on Theodore Celms consists of photocopies of several short biographical articles on Dr. Celms, including announcements about his death, and photocopies of Cooper's class notes from Celms's 1961 Philosophy of Culture course.

Abstract Rudolph W. Edmund graduated from Augustana College with a Bachelor's Degree in Geology in 1934. After working for a year, Edmund continued his education at the University of Iowa where he pursued and then attained a Master's Degree (1938) and then a Ph. D. (1940). For the remainder of his career, he alternated between working in the private sector as a petroleum geologist and teaching in the geology department at Augustana College, where he was instrumental in helping design new facilities...

Abstract Robert C. Frank was a professor of physics at Augustana College from 1964 to 1992. Frank was active in helping shape the early development of the Physics Department in the 1960s, advocating for the program to become research-focused. Frank specialized in solid state physics, metallurgy, magnetomechanical damping, diffusion, and scientific computing. Henry Reck notebook

Abstract

Henry Reck was born near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 24 August 1829. He was ordained as a Lutheran minister in 1852 and served two congregations and two orphanages until he was called to teach at Augustana College in Paxton, Illinois, in 1871. The Henry Reck notebook contains lecture notes dealing with apologetics, Bible study, and theology in general; these notes appear to be from his time at Gettysburg Seminary.
