Abstract
Henry S. Shurtleff was one of the earliest settlers of Hampton Township and Rapids City, Illinois. Born in Farmington, New Hampshire, 27 February 1816, he headed west with his father in 1835 and eventually settled in Hampton Township, where he bought 40 acres of farmland and began working in the lumber industry. Located on the Cuban coast, Siboney Bay Camp number 8 was where United States forces came ashore during the Spanish American War in 1898. The Rock Island veterans group by the same name kept records of local former service men, their dates of death, and information pertaining to their discharge from the Army. Sigma Kappa Tau was founded as "the QTs" at Augustana College in 1909. The group faced periods of declining membership and financial struggle before stabilizing and ultimately renaming itself Sigma Kappa Tau. Abstract
The Sigma Pi Delta sorority, nicknamed the “Speeds”, was founded at Augustana College in 1908 by members of the S.P.D. Tennis Club. The Speeds gave up their charter from 1970 to 1980, but remain active on campus today. Abstract
Carl Enoch Slätt was a student at Augustana College and a pastor in the Augustana Synod. Slätt was born in Sweden in 1865, and immigrated to the United States in 1891. He was a member of the Augustana College class of 1896, and attended the Augustana Seminary from 1892-1894. He then went on to lead several churches in the Quad Cities area. Slätt died in 1950. His papers include two small notebooks of sermons.

Abstract
Clarence Woodrow Sorensen, the sixth president of Augustana College, was born in Nebraska in 1907. He studied and traveled all over the world, producing fifteen books about his geographical studies, before coming to Augustana College. Sorensen assumed the presidency in 1962, and became the first Augustana College president who was not ordained before or during his term. Abstract
Jesse E. Spencer was a resident of Rock Island, Illinois, who collected books mainly between the years of 1910 and 1930. His private collection contained roughly 3800 volumes, and was purchased from the Millicent Spencer estate by Augustana College in 1949. The books were transferred to the college by the Van Norman Book Company of Galesburg. Jonathan B. Spencer lived in Essex County, New York, in the first half of the nineteenth century, and bought and sold land in the Quad City area. Richard P. Hart also bought and sold land in the area in the 1840s and 1850s. Materials in this collection include financial records, correspondence, and notes concerning the buying and selling of land around the Quad City area after the Black Hawk War, as well as photocopies of the original documents.
