Overview The Augustana Choir was formed in 1931 under the direction of Henry Veld, who merged Augustana College's two choral groups, the Wennerberg Chorus and the Orioles, into one group. The choir made its first appearance 18 March 1931 during a concert at Orchestra Hall in Chicago and became an immediate success. Overview John Brown was a bus driver for the Greyhound bus company. He was first hired by Augustana College in 1942 to drive the Augustana Choir on their annual tour. He drove the choir on their tour for 33 years, until his retirement in 1975. The choir nicknamed him “Brownie,” and would request him as their driver every year. Materials in this collection include scrapbooks and news clippings.

Overview Niel M. Johnson graduated with a B. A. from Augustana College in 1953. While in college, Johnson was active in the Rho Nu Delta fraternity, the Augustana choir, and was a reporter for the Observer, the college newspaper.
