Jonathan B. Spencer and Richard P. Hart papers
Abstract
Jonathan B. Spencer was born in 1795 in Vermont. Though never a resident of the Quad Cities, he bought and sold land in the area in the early 19th century. A local connection for Jonathan was his cousin, Roswell H. Spencer, who resided in the area and also dealt in land. Jonathan B. Spencer died in Moriah, New York in 1874.
Richard P. Hart the elder and his son, Richard P. Hart the younger, both of New York, also bought and sold land in the area in the 1840s and 1850s. After his father’s death in 1843, the younger Hart took over his father’s work. Hart the younger died in Troy, New York in 1892. Neither man ever resided in the Quad Cities area.
Materials in this collection include financial records, correspondence, and notes concerning the buying and selling of land around the Quad Cities area after the Black Hawk War, as well as photocopies of the original documents.
