Abstract

Jesse E. Spencer was a resident of Rock Island, Illinois, who collected books mainly between the years of 1910 and 1930. His private collection contained roughly 3800 volumes, and was purchased from the Millicent Spencer estate by Augustana College in 1949. The books were transferred to the college by the Van Norman Book Company of Galesburg. Materials in the collection include descriptions of rare book editions, as well as other notes, pamphlets, and articles relating to Jesse Spencer's book collection. Items were collected from Special Collections books by librarian Sarah Horowitz beginning in June 2010.
