This volume includes the 1864 diary of a Confederate soldier, Lafayette Rogan, who was held at the Confederate prison at Rock Island Arsenal during the Civil War. The diary describes life at the prison during the year 1864. According to Hauberg, the diary is "the best item, bearing on conditions, life, etc. at the prison, that has come to my attention."
