Myra Lukens Mayhew Carr, circa 1860s

Scope and Contents

Contents include one hand-colored tintype portrait of Myra Lukens Mayhew Carr, seated, in a floral black bonnet and dress. Inscription on verso reads "Myra Lukens Mayhew Carr, 'Grandma Carr,' aunt of George Mayhew [sic] Lukens, m. Wm. Carr as his second wife when Eliza Jane Carr was 2 years old, 1843. Mr. Mayhew murdered in Rock Island, bur. in Carr Cemetary."

Contents include three undated photographs of Eliza Jane Carr Lukens: a daguerreotype portrait, circa 1860s; a sepia portrait of Lukens, seated, in a black dress with floral corsage and glasses, circa 1900s; and a black and white headshot of Lukens in a black high-collared dress, circa 1910s. The daguerreotype is greatly deteriorated and illegible, but a print copy of the portrait it depicts can be found in the folder of Eliza Jane Carr Lukens Lincoln-Douglas debate papers in box 3.
