The Augustana College Office of Cultural Events was responsible for planning and scheduling events on campus, especially those related to music and theater. While mostly organizing events for students and faculty, the Office of Cultural Events also helped organize events for visiting performers. Augustana College offered its first courses in elocution and physical culture in 1897-1898, which likely included some elements of acting. In 1910-1911, the Department of Elocution and Physical Culture first offered a course in “dramatic expression.” This department eventually changed into the Theater Department. Abstract
Betsey Brodahl was born and raised in Wahoo, Nebraska, where she attended grade school and high school and one year at Luther College. Upon the urging of two instructors at Luther College, Brodahl applied at Augustana College to continue her college education. She was accepted, and graduated with a B. A. in history in 1944. In 1956, Don Wooten founded the Genesius Guild to participate in the Rock Island Playground Recreation-Park Board’s annual Marshall Dramatic Contest. he Genesius Guild records date from 1956 to 2017 and measure 19.25 linear feet.
