Overview Helen Collins was born in 1901 in the town of Wakefield, Nebraska. Her father, Henry Collins, was a prominent businessman in the area; her mother, Sophia Collins, was the daughter of the Salem Lutheran Church's founder. Helen was one of seven children her father hoped would all attend college; Helen and her sister Elsie selected Augustana. Overview The Sigma Pi Delta sorority, nicknamed the “Speeds”, was founded at Augustana College in 1908 by members of the S.P.D. Tennis Club. The Speeds gave up their charter from 1970 to 1980, but remain active on campus today. The Sigma Pi Delta records, 1908-2004 and undated, is organized into four series: Official records, 1924-2004 and undated; Sorority activities, 1927-2003 and undated; Pledging, 1981-2004; and Photographs and scrapbook, 1908-2003 and undated.
