Scope and Contents
The Sigma Pi Delta records, 1908-2004 and undated, is organized into four series. Official records, 1924-2004 and undated, contains documents relating to the sorority’s meetings and members. Sorority activities, 1927-2003 and undated, contains documents pertaining to social functions and updates from alumnae. Pledging, 1981-2004, contains calendars, pledging responsibilities for active members, and pledge mom binders. Photographs and scrapbook, 1908-2003 and undated, contains a scrapbook, 1941-1949, of member achievements and social events, composite photographs, photographs of charter members, and a Sigma Pi Delta spoon.

Historical Note
The Sigma Pi Delta sorority, nicknamed the “Speeds”, was founded at Augustana College in 1908 by eleven members of the S.P.D. Tennis Club. It was the first Greek organization on the Augustana College campus. In 1970, the Speeds gave up their charter, but the sorority was reinstated in 1980 with the help of Dean Betsy Brodahl. The Sigma Pi Delta sorority remains active at Augustana College today, making it the oldest sorority on campus.

Abstract

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Photographs, meeting minutes, phone trees, calendars, and scrapbook received from Erin Storc in April 2004. In May 2004, Amanda Lukasik donated the pledge mom binders. Marian and Marvin Gassman donated the Sigma Pi Delta spoon in 2009.
