The Black Hawk Hiking Club was formed in 1920 as the Black Hawk Prairie Club, whose purpose was to promote outdoor recreation in the form of walks, outings, camping, and canoeing. Jean Schilling was a longtime member of the Black Hawk Hiking Club. She attended over 25 of the club's annual "Big Hikes," which were conducted throughout the United States and Canada. The Jean Schilling scrapbooks, 1975-2003, contains scrapbooks compiled by Schilling, mostly containing her own photographs of the Black Hawk Hiking Club’s annual Big Hikes.
