Abstract Robert Maine Coultas was born on 24 November 1918 in Moline, Illinois. He did some undergraduate work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before graduating from Augustana College with a degree in music. Coultas enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve in 1942 and served in many different positions throughout the war, including tours of active duty in Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Pacific Theater. Abstract The Tufve Nilsson Hasselquist papers, 1840-1988 and undated, primarily documents the personal and professional life of the second president of Augustana College, Tufve Nilsson Hasselquist. Hasselquist was born in Sweden in 1816 and traveled to America in 1852. Before assuming the presidency of the college in 1863, Hasselquist was the president of the Augustana Synod, the editor of a Swedish-language newspaper, and a pastor. Abstract Henriette Christiane Koren Naeseth served as Head of the Department of English at Augustana College from 1936 until she retired in 1968. She was also chairman of the Division of Humanities starting in 1945. Naeseth came from a well-educated Norwegian family steeped in the academic tradition.Naeseth was proud of her Norwegian ancestry and actively researched the field of Norwegian-American culture.
