Abstract Netta C. Bartholomew Anderson was one of the first six women to graduate from Augustana College, earning her degree in 1894. She was active in student groups at Augustana and remained active in the Rock Island community and with the Augustana Alumni Association after graduating. She was an early proponent of women's rights and a prolific writer and researcher. Abstract

Elfriede Leschewski Beyer was a German immigrant, a member of the Black Hawk Hiking Club, and an award-winning artist active in the Rock Island area in the mid-twentieth century. The Elfriede Beyer papers, 1927-1989 and undated, contains two of Beyer's sketchbooks, Beyer's obituary, and personal notes removed from the sketchbooks.
