Abstract
The Friendship Fair had its origins in World War II, with the first official Friendship Fair being held in 1949. The annual carnival-style festival raised money to bring international students to Augustana and to send an Augustana student abroad for a year. The Augustana College Friendship Fair collection, 1953-1998 (bulk 1953-1976), contains publicity materials, publications, news clippings, scrapbooks, and memorabilia related to the annual Friendship Fair.

Abstract
Conrad Bergendoff was the fifth president of Augustana College. Bergendoff was born in rural Nebraska in 1895. He attended Augustana College, and was a member of the class of 1915. He also earned a divinity degree from Augustana Seminary. After several years Bergendoff returned to the seminary as the dean, then as the president of the seminary and the college in 1935. Clarence Woodrow Sorensen, the sixth president of Augustana College, was born in Nebraska in 1907. He studied and traveled all over the world, producing fifteen books about his geographical studies, before coming to Augustana College. Sorensen assumed the presidency in 1962, and became the first Augustana College president who was not ordained before or during his term.
