Abstract

The Augustana College Office of Cultural Events was responsible for planning and scheduling events on campus, especially those related to music and theater. While mostly organizing events for students and faculty, the Office of Cultural Events also helped organize events for visiting performers. Materials in this collection include newsletters, posters, flyers, news clippings, and programs.

Abstract Emily Caroline Envall was born in Galesburg, Illinois, on 25 November 1869, the oldest child of John and Caroline Peterson Envall, recent immigrants from Sweden. She received less than seven years of formal education in the Galesburg public schools. On 10 January 1889 she entered the Augustana Conservatory of Music at Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois. Paul G. Finnman papers

Abstract Paul G. Finnman was a former student of Augustana College. Finnman was originally from Nebraska, and graduated as a member of the class of 1939. He composed the words and music for "Alma Mater," a song for Augustana College in 1937, as well as several other pieces for fraternities. Finnman often accompanied students in recitals and performances. Abstract Louise Nathanson (née Meiszner) was a world-renowned pianist active in the mid-twentieth century. The daughter of Hungarian immigrants, Nathanson hailed from St. Louis, Missouri, and performed as a soloist for many notable ensembles, including the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Phil Spitalny All Girl Orchestra.
