Abstract Constantin Magnus Esbjörn (also spelled Esbjorn) was born to Gustava and Lars Paul Esbjörn, the founding president of Augustana College, in 1858. C.M. Esbjörn attended Augustana College in Paxton, Illinois, and followed the college when it moved in 1875 to Rock Island, Illinois. Following his graduation from Augustana in 1877, Esbjörn taught at Augustana until 1880 and then again from 1883 to 1890, when he was ordained. Abstract Ernest Marvin Espelie was born on June 22, 1908, in Stoughton, Wisconsin. He was the son of Even and Mamie (Oftelie) Espelie. Espelie attended Luther College for his undergraduate education. Abstract The Esping family emigrated to Illinois from their home in Döderhult, Sweden in 1853. The family line and genealogy is extensive, but this collection focuses mainly on Julius Esping, his wife Sophie Bezelius, and their direct line. Russell Farnham papers

Abstract

Russell Farnham was an important individual in the fur trade, as well as a pioneer in the American Midwest. Farnham became George Davenport’s partner in the fur trade in 1824, and bought local land with him. He was also a member of the American Fur Company, and helped to establish the first American fur trading posts west of the Mississippi. His collection includes a letter to Davenport, as well as a passport for safe passage through Copenhagen, Denmark.

Abstract

Nels Johan Forsberg was a Lutheran pastor and former member of the Board of Directors for Augustana College. Forsberg spoke at the commencement ceremonies at Augustana College in 1912. He was the secretary of the Board of Directors for several years, at least from 1912-1913. His collection includes personal correspondence, two manuscripts, and printed pamphlets.
