Abstract Niel M. Johnson graduated with a B. A. from Augustana College in 1953. While in college, Johnson was active in the Rho Nu Delta fraternity, the Augustana choir, and was a reporter for the Observer, the college newspaper. Verna Gail Applegate attended Augustana College from 1949 to 1953. She was a member of the Chi Delta sorority, and her junior year she sang in the chapel choir. Abstract Arnold V. Johnston, the son of Augustana Synod president Rev. Dr. L. A. Johnston, attended Augustana College in the first years of the 20th century. He was a member of the Webster Debating Club, the Debating League, and the Observer staff. In December 1910, Johnston contracted typhoid fever and had to drop out of school for several months. Abstract

John and Peter Kahlke, two brothers born in Germany, opened the Kahlke Bros. Boatyard in Rock Island, Illinois in 1868. The business, which focused on building and repairing wooden boats of various types, was well known throughout the United States for its high quality work. In 1924, the boatyard was passed on to Peter's sons, Fred and Ed. The Kahlke Bros. Boatyard records include correspondence and other records related to the management of the business.

Abstract The Kappa Epsilon Nu sorority, known as both the “Kens” and the “Kappas”, was established as a sorority at Augustana College in 1925 by Leota J. Norton, Ester Woodburn, Florence Tams, Eleanor Graham, Ethel Eldrige, Charlotte Schnathoist, Kay Bragg, Helen Searle, Natalie Souders, and Frances Long. Abstract The Kappa Epsilon sorority, nicknamed the “Keys”, was founded at Augustana College in 1913 by six young women.
