Abstract The Adelphic Society was the younger of the two literary societies that flourished on the Augustana College campus during the early decades of its existence. The Adelphic Society was organized by the students in the fall of 1882, its first meeting taking place 14 October 1882. The Adelphic Society records, 1882-1929 and undated, contains organizational papers, financial records, publications, and other papers.

Abstract Esther Miriam Andreen was born on September 4, 1896 in New Haven, Connecticut to parents Gustav and Marie Andreen. Her father became the fourth president of Augustana College in 1901. Albrecht had two older brothers, Paul and Marion, and two younger, Gustav and Carl. She attended the Augustana Academy from 1908 to 1914, and enrolled at Augustana College in the fall of 1914, where she studied Modern Languages. Abstract The Alpha Delta Journalistic Fraternity was founded 27 December 1929 by staff members of the Augustana Observer. On 8 March 1930, the Illinois Alpha Chapter began at Augustana College. The group published a bi-annual magazine, Alpha Delt, and attended the National conventions in peoria, Illinois. Membership was based on involvement in the Observer. Abstract Alpha Lambda Delta was a national honors society founded at the University of Illinois in 1923. Initially, it was open only to high-achieving women since its brother organization, Phi Eta Sigma, accepted only male participants. Both organizations became co-educational in the mid-1970s. Abstract Netta C. Bartholomew Anderson was one of the first six women to graduate from Augustana College, earning her degree in 1894. She was active in student groups at Augustana and remained active in the Rock Island community and with the Augustana Alumni Association after graduating.
