Abstract

The materials from the Moretz and Stahl family collection of Augustana College materials include the personal possessions of Ethel Paulson Moretz, Helen Moretz Stahl, Richard "Dick" Stahl, and John Moretz (son of Ethel Paulson Moretz and brother of Helen Moretz Stahl). Covering a 67 year span, the materials in the Moretz and Stahl family collection are date from 1924 to 2013 and include documents, photographs, postcards, and memorabilia from family members' time at Augustana College.

Abstract Gertrude Roth was born March 16, 1903, in Davenport, Iowa. She received a bachelor’s degree from Augustana College and a master’s from the University of Iowa. She married Ralph Morgan in 1944. Morgan was active in the Quad Cities musical community, serving on the board of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra for 66 years and as coordinator of vocal music for the Davenport schools for 25 years. Abstract Henriette Christiane Koren Naeseth served as Head of the Department of English at Augustana College from 1936 until she retired in 1968. She was also chairman of the Division of Humanities starting in 1945. Naeseth came from a well-educated Norwegian family steeped in the academic tradition.Naeseth was proud of her Norwegian ancestry and actively researched the field of Norwegian-American culture. Abstract Carol Noren was the first woman graduate of Augustana Theological Seminary to enter the ministry. She served as pastor and hospital chaplain in Manchester, England (1975-1976) and associate pastor of Salem United Methodist Church in Barrington, Ill., from 1977 to 1981. Abstract Ira O. Nothstein served as the head librarian and archivist for Augustana College from 1918 to 1959. He was ordained by the Augustana Lutheran Church in Philadelphia after graduating from Mount Airy Lutheran Theological Seminary.
